Smart Moves Academy will be America’s first public charter school optimizing learning through physical activity, where learners are nurtured to become balanced scholars, effective collaborators, adaptable leaders, and ethical advocates who respect human diversity.

Our Guiding Tenets

Adults and children are strengthened by acts of consequential service to others, and one of our school’s primary functions is to prepare young people with the attitudes and skills to learn from and be of service to others.
Learning is fostered best in communities where everyone’s ideas are respected and where there is mutual trust. Learning groups are intentionally small with a caring adult looking after progress and acting as an advocate for each child. Older students mentor younger ones, and students feel physically and emotionally safe.
Both diversity and inclusion increase the richness of ideas, our creative power, our problem-solving ability, and our respect for others. Students learn to value their different identities, histories, and talents, as well as those of others.
We acknowledge how privilege, power, and oppression are integral to our understanding of justice, equity, and liberation. We teach peaceful conflict resolution. We are unapologetically anti-racist, pro environment, pro inclusion and pro peace.

Our Students

Sixty kindergarten through third-grade learners are embarking on a new, more effective way of learning in August 2026. The Academy will expand by one grade level each year through 8th grade.
Our Location

Our facility search is active and includes communities in St. Petersburg and Tampa. Smart Moves Academy is planned as a network of schools opening three locations in metro Tampa/St. Pete over the next 10 years.
